Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo reports fresh racist abuse on social media, reigniting concerns over online discrimination in football

Antoine Semenyo, forward for Manchester City, has revealed he has once again been subjected to racist abuse on social media, highlighting the continuing challenge of discrimination in football.

The racist abuse came to light on Monday when the 26-year-old posted a screenshot on Instagram showing abusive messages sent from an account, alongside the caption: “it’s started again.”

The post immediately triggered concern across the football community, with renewed calls for stronger action against online hate targeting professional players.

Semenyo has previously faced similar abuse this season, including an incident earlier in the campaign while playing for AFC Bournemouth, when he was allegedly targeted by a spectator after scoring twice in a Premier League match against Liverpool.

Following that earlier case, police arrested and charged a man with a racially aggravated public order offence, with legal proceedings still ongoing.

Reacting to the latest incident, Semenyo expressed frustration and disappointment, reiterating his message that the abuse has returned.

Premier League officials and the Football Association have been informed, while Manchester City are understood to be offering full support to the player.

The incident adds to a worrying pattern of racist abuse directed at footballers this season, with multiple cases under investigation by authorities and policing units.

Clubs across English football have continued to condemn such behaviour, calling for tougher measures from social media platforms and regulators to identify offenders.
