Iheanacho Celtic future remains uncertain as Martin O’Neill declines to clarify the striker’s long-term stay despite strong recent form

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has cast fresh uncertainty over the long-term future of Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho, a decision that follows the striker’s late-season resurgence and decisive contribution in the Scottish Cup final.

O’Neill’s remarks came after Celtic’s emphatic 3-0 victory at Hampden Park, where Kelechi Iheanacho, the Kelechi Iheanacho, scored a standout goal to help secure silverware for the Scottish champions.

Iheanacho Celtic future discussion has intensified in recent weeks, with the striker’s one-year deal set to expire following his move from Sevilla last summer.

According to comments reported by The Scotsman, O’Neill said Iheanacho had repeatedly sought clarity on his future, but insisted he was not in a position to provide answers.

“Iheanacho keeps asking me, ‘What do you think, are they going to keep me on?’ I have no idea, mate. Don’t ask me, I am not the manager anymore,” O’Neill was quoted as saying.

The statement has fuelled further speculation around the Iheanacho Celtic future, particularly given the player’s improved form and growing influence in the squad’s attacking setup.

Club officials are yet to make any public announcement regarding contract negotiations, leaving supporters uncertain about whether the Nigerian international will remain at Parkhead next season.
