Super Eagles Unity Cup Zimbabwe Clash as Nigeria face Zimbabwe in London semi-final aiming to defend their Unity Cup title

Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Zimbabwe on Tuesday, at The Valley in London as the 2026 Unity Cup semi-finals get underway in a high-stakes encounter that will determine one finalist in the four-nation tournament.

The competition, which also features Jamaica and India, runs from 26 to 30 May and brings together national teams competing for continental pride in the invitational event.

Nigeria enter the fixture as defending champions after winning the 2025 edition of the Unity Cup with victory over Jamaica in the final, a triumph that has strengthened expectations around their performance this year.

Head coach Eric Chelle has described Zimbabwe as a motivated and physically strong side, warning that the encounter will demand focus and discipline from his players.

Speaking ahead of the match, Chelle praised the Warriors for their intensity and determination, noting that his squad must be fully prepared to compete against an opponent eager to cause an upset.

Despite that caution, optimism remains high within Nigerian football circles. Lagos-based journalist Femi Fabunmi backed the Super Eagles to advance, arguing that their depth, ranking and quality give them a clear advantage.

Fabunbi said Nigeria’s status as defending champions and their strong squad make them favourites to progress and potentially retain the trophy.

The winner of the semi-final will face either Jamaica or India, who meet in the second semi-final on Wednesday, in the final scheduled for later in the week.

Nigeria and Zimbabwe head into the clash having shared results in previous meetings, adding an extra layer of intrigue to what is expected to be a tightly contested match.
