Villarreal have decided against renewing Thomas Partey’s contract, leaving the Ghana international without a club at the end of June 2026 after 32 appearances for the Spanish side

Villarreal have opted not to renew the contract of Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey, paving the way for the 32-year-old to become a free agent at the end of June.

The decision, reported by The Athletic on Wednesday, brings to a close Partey’s single season at the Yellow Submarine. The former Arsenal player joined Villarreal last summer and made 32 appearances across all competitions.

With his current deal expiring this month, Partey now faces an uncertain future at club level while he remains on international duty with Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The development comes at a difficult moment for the midfielder, who was recently denied entry into Canada for a national team fixture due to an ongoing legal proceeding in the United Kingdom.
