The suspects, identified as Usman Ashiru, 26, and Abubakar Ali, 28, both residents of Rijiyar Lemo quarters in Kano, were arrested after police responded to a distress report involving the robbery of a tricycle operator.

The operation followed a complaint received at the Dala Police Division on 21 July 2026 at about 11:30 p.m. from a community member who alerted authorities to a suspected robbery incident.

According to a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, the victim, identified as Abdulrahman Atula, 22, a tricycle rider from Kawo Hotoro, was allegedly lured by unknown individuals, given an intoxicating substance and robbed of his tricycle at gunpoint.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Dala Police Division, immediately mobilised a patrol team to the area and with the active support and credible information provided by community members, led to the successful arrest of the two suspected armed robbers and the recovery of the stolen tricycle in their possession,” the statement said.

Police said Atula was rescued and taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano, where he is currently receiving treatment and responding to medical care.

Further investigations reportedly linked the suspects to other similar incidents. The command said 10 additional tricycle operators who had previously reported being robbed in Dorayi and Bachirawa quarters identified the same suspects as those allegedly responsible for their attacks.

Police said the suspects are believed to be part of a criminal network that specialised in deceiving tricycle operators, administering intoxicating substances and taking possession of their vehicles.

The command said discreet investigations are continuing in an effort to identify and arrest other members of the suspected robbery syndicate and recover additional stolen items. The suspects are expected to be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.

The police praised residents who provided information that assisted the operation, describing community cooperation as a crucial factor in tackling organised crime.
