Agbo Major NNPP denies reports of endorsing President Tinubu for 2027, insisting the party has made no alliance or adoption decision

Agbo Major NNPP National Chairman has dismissed reports that the party plans to adopt President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its candidate for the 2027 general election, insisting that no such decision has been taken.

Speaking on Wednesday amid ongoing political defections from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Major clarified that while individuals may be exploring personal political alignments, the NNPP as an institution has not endorsed any alliance.

He said, “Well, there are two separate issues here: individuals within the party who may be eyeing the APC, and the party itself as an institution.

It is not unusual for parties to explore collaboration in the interest of national stability. What is important is the survival of our democracy.

However, I can tell you categorically that as a party, the NNPP has not made any decision to adopt or align with President Tinubu or the APC.”

Major noted that some expelled members, including Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, might be pursuing personal political interests, stressing that their actions do not represent the NNPP’s position.

Addressing speculation about Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf possibly joining the APC, the NNPP chair described the governor’s predicament as “peculiar.”

He explained, “Governor Yusuf came into the NNPP through Kwankwaso’s movement and was given the party’s ticket. By God’s grace, he won.

But since assuming office, he has been under intense control from Kwankwaso, who dictates his every move from Abuja. If his decision to leave the NNPP is to free himself from that stranglehold and better serve his people, then it’s understandable.”

Major added that while Governor Yusuf’s possible defection would be regrettable, it would not be treated as an act of betrayal if it ultimately benefits the people of Kano.

When asked whether Kwankwaso and Yusuf could coexist under the APC, Major responded, “That’s a very valid question. It would be very difficult for both men to work together under one roof again, unless the governor chooses to completely surrender himself.

Kwankwaso is known to be extremely domineering. In his political movement, subservience to him is total.”

With this firm clarification, Major reaffirmed the NNPP’s independence and commitment to democratic principles, dismissing any suggestion of an imminent merger with the ruling party.
