Veteran actor Chiwetalu Agu advises women to be mentally, spiritually, and financially stable before marriage, saying it should complement, not complete them

Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has advised women to prioritise self-development and independence before getting married.

In a video shared on his Instagram page and cited by PUNCH Online on Monday, Agu emphasised that marriage should not define a woman’s identity or sense of fulfillment.

Instead, he urged women to become mentally, spiritually, and financially stable before taking the step into marriage.

“The best advice I can give you as a lady before you embark on the journey of marriage is to be a complete woman before you marry,” Agu said.

“Make sure you are mentally, physically, spiritually and financially stable before you marry. Emphasis on being financially and spiritually stable.”

He stressed that a woman’s worth is not determined by her marital status, adding that marriage should be “a beautiful addition, not a missing piece.”

Agu encouraged women to build themselves up and pursue their dreams, warning against total dependence on a man.

“Even if you are not financially stable, at least make sure you have something to do — a handwork, a business idea or some form of independence,” he said.

“If your husband divorces you or dies, and you have nothing of your own, you could lose everything. That’s why it’s important to be established before marriage.”
