NFF President Ibrahim Gusau confirms no current plan to extend Eric Chelle’s contract as Super Eagles coach, halfway through his 2-year deal

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, has confirmed that there are currently no plans to offer Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle a contract extension following the AFCON tournament in Morocco.

Chelle, who was appointed in January 2025, led the three-time African champions to a Bronze medal after defeating Egypt.

Despite the achievement, Gusau described talks of a contract renewal as premature, noting that the Malian coach is only halfway through his current two-year agreement.

“For now, there’ll be no contract extension discussion with Chelle,” Gusau said.

“We signed a 2-year contract with him in January 2025 and he’s still only halfway through his contract.”

The NFF president’s statement clarifies the federation’s position on contract negotiations ahead of future planning for the national team.
