Jesse Lingard scores in final game for FC Seoul, bids emotional farewell after two seasons in South Korea

Former Manchester United and England midfielder Jesse Lingard marked his final appearance for FC Seoul with a goal on Wednesday, bidding an emotional farewell after two seasons in South Korean football.

The 32-year-old scored the opener in Seoul’s 1-1 AFC Champions League draw at home to Melbourne City, capping off a memorable tenure at the club. Lingard joined FC Seoul in February last year, making 60 appearances and captaining the side.

A video tribute on the stadium’s big screen described him as “Our beloved captain” and thanked him for his contribution.

“Your name and legacy will always be remembered in the history of our club. Seoul will always be your home,” it read.

Lingard, visibly emotional, applauded the home fans and embraced his teammates during a lap of honour. “I’ve learned a lot, I’ve become more mature, I’ve had a lot of responsibility this year being captain,” he said ahead of the match. “I can leave South Korea more mature, I believe.”

In the game, Lingard slotted home in the 31st minute and celebrated with a Michael Jackson-style moonwalk. Melbourne City equalised midway through the second half, leaving the match 1-1.
