The victims were identified as Marwan Abubakar, 40, and Leng’en Cakop, 37. Both men were reportedly kidnapped in Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State before being moved across state lines.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the acting Media Information Officer of the task force, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the operation was launched after security forces received actionable intelligence indicating the presence of terrorists and their captives in the community.

Acting on the intelligence, troops conducted an aggressive search across suspected houses and hideouts in Gborgbor Village in a determined effort to locate the abductors and recover the victims safely.

Initial searches yielded no immediate discovery, but further intelligence suggested the kidnappers were still within the area.

Additional troops led by the sub-sector commander were subsequently deployed to reinforce the operation, which extended to neighbouring settlements including Tse Anaka.

The sustained security pressure forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee.

The Force Commander of the task force, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and swift response, describing the operation as a powerful demonstration of the effectiveness of intelligence-led security strategies.

Gara also reassured residents of Taraba and neighbouring states that the Joint Task Force remains committed to protecting lives and property while intensifying efforts to dismantle criminal networks responsible for kidnappings and other violent crimes.
