Remo Stars moved to the top of the NPFL table after securing their first home win of the season — a 1-0 victory over Warri Wolves in Abeokuta, thanks to a late goal by Samson Olasupo

Abeokuta, Nigeria – Remo Stars finally delighted their home fans with a narrow but crucial 1-0 victory over Warri Wolves on Sunday, moving to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after three rounds of matches.

The only goal of the game came in the 76th minute, when substitute Samson Olasupo slotted home following a clever assist from Haruna Hadi, handing the Sky Blue Stars their first home win of the season.

Having been held 1-1 by Rivers United on opening day, and coming off a hard-fought 2-1 away win in Aba against Kun Khalifat, Remo Stars were desperate for a win in front of their home supporters at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.

Despite the absence of head coach Daniel Ogunmodede, currently on national duty with the Super Eagles, assistant coach Sulaimon Folarin stepped up and led the team to a vital win that keeps them unbeaten in the 2025 NPFL campaign.

From the opening whistle, Remo Stars dominated possession and created several chances:

• Captain Olamilekan Adedayo forced an early save from Wolves’ goalkeeper Vincent Edafe in the 2nd minute.
• Samuel Anakwe rattled the crossbar with a clever lob in the 25th minute.
• Ibrahim Shuaibu and Chilekwu Chigozie also went close in a frustrating first half.

The visitors nearly punished Remo before the break, but Sabitu Abiola produced a crucial save in first-half stoppage time.

In the second half, substitutions made the difference:

• Haruna Hadi and Samson Olasupo were introduced in the 54th minute.
• Hadi nearly scored immediately, while Olasupo had a good strike saved in the 61st minute.
• In the 76th minute, Hadi split the defence with a smart pass to Olasupo, who calmly finished to spark wild celebrations from fans and club owner Kunle Soname.

Warri Wolves mounted late pressure but Stanley Joseph’s goal-line clearance and Abiola’s safe hands denied them an equaliser.

With the win, Remo Stars now top the NPFL table with 7 points from 3 matches, ahead of Wikki Tourists and Bayelsa United.

For Warri Wolves, the defeat was their first of the season, having previously beaten Rangers International and Katsina United. They now sit fourth on the log.
