Sola Allyson shares her spiritual journey from Islam to Christianity, shaped by childhood, family, and personal discovery

Singer Sola Allyson has said her conversion from Islam to Christianity was the result of a childhood shaped by family separation, cultural exposure, and years of personal spiritual searching.

Allyson, born Rasheedat into a Muslim family, explained during an interview on Oyinmomo TV that she spent her early childhood with her maternal grandmother in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, where she actively practised Islam.

She said the routines of daily prayers and traditional discipline formed the foundation of her early life.

Her journey shifted when she later moved to Ikorodu, Lagos, to live with her paternal grandparents.

There, she reconnected with an old friend who introduced her to church activities, a development she said gradually opened her to Christianity.

Allyson noted that she has never denied her Islamic background and still appreciates the meaning of her birth name.

She said she researched the name “Rasheedat” when she was young and was pleased to learn it means “someone who is wise.”

She recalled frequently following her friend to church during her stay in Ikorodu, sometimes spending the night at her friend’s home after services.

She added that books also broadened her worldview, saying she studied Buddhism and read widely across different religious and philosophical traditions.

Allyson said her exposure to both Islam and Christianity, often in the absence of her parents, meant she adapted to whichever environment she found herself.

She explained that she prioritised seeking God’s will above strict adherence to any particular religious doctrine.

According to her, genuine understanding of the divine is more important than rigid observance of a single faith tradition.

She said this belief helps her relate naturally with people of any religion.

Allyson’s music career began on 17 January 1997, after she attended a music training session at a Celestial Church of Christ, a moment she described as the start of her professional journey.
