Tambuwal was detained on Monday, August 11, 2025, after honoring an EFCC invitation at about 11:16 a.m. He was reportedly taken into custody when investigators claimed he failed to adequately respond to key questions.

A senior EFCC detective confirmed that the former governor had been granted administrative bail. “We’ve extracted what we need from him and he will soon leave our headquarters after perfecting his bail conditions,” the source told journalists.

The official declined to say whether Tambuwal would be formally charged or arraigned in court. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale did not respond to calls or text messages seeking clarification as of press time.
