Rotimi Amaechi declares Buhari’s government “100 times better” than Tinubu’s, highlights power challenges under current administration, and pledges support for ADC’s presidential candidate after defecting from APC

Former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi has publicly stated his preference for Muhammadu Buhari’s administration over the current government led by President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on an X Space discussion titled Weekend Politics on Saturday, Amaechi expressed dissatisfaction with the present state of affairs, especially the soaring cost of electricity and diesel.

“Buhari’s government is 100 times better than Tinubu’s government. For Christ’s sake, were you dying of hunger? What we pay here is N1 million every week for power (N4 million in a month).

How many people can afford that? Then you have to buy diesel of about N300,000 aside from feeding and staff salary,” Amaechi lamented.

He added, “But it was not like that when Buhari was in power. Why are we comparing diamond to gold? In fact, this government is not even gold at all.”

Amaechi’s comments come amid his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he now joins notable politicians including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

He further pledged his full support for the ADC’s presidential candidate, provided the nomination is secured through a free and fair primary election.

“In a free and fair primary, whoever wins will have my full support. I will be deeply devoted to the campaign and will do everything in my power to help ADC unseat this current, clueless government,” Amaechi said.

Highlighting his priorities if elected president, he vowed to tackle corruption and electoral reforms. “I will abandon the coastal road; that road is for stealing.

Electoral reforms are the lowest-hanging fruit for me if I become President. There will be electoral reforms in my first six months,” he declared.
