Taraba government denies reports that Governor Agbu Kefas spent ₦5.22bn on foreign trips, calling the claims false, misleading, and not backed by official records

Agbu Kefas foreign trip spending claims have been categorically denied by the Taraba State Government, which says reports alleging the governor spent ₦5.22 billion on overseas travels within six months are completely false and not grounded in any official data.

The clarification came in a strongly worded statement on Sunday by the Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Zainab Jalingo, who described the media report as “a fabrication, lacking any basis in official records.”

“This claim is entirely false. It is not based on any official record and constitutes a gross misrepresentation of facts,” Jalingo stated.

The report, which cited data supposedly obtained from the Taraba State government’s website and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), claimed Governor Kefas had spent ₦5.22 billion on international trips.

However, the commissioner emphasized that the figure is nowhere to be found in the state’s budget or any verified public dataset.

“We have checked and urged the public to do the same. Until then, the ₦5.22 billion claim remains nothing but fiction,” she added.

Rather than lavish spending, the Kefas-led administration has prioritized reforms in education, healthcare, and economic development, Jalingo said, noting that transformation takes “deliberate planning, tough choices, and sustained effort.”

“The results are beginning to manifest,” she said confidently.
