Barcelona beat Getafe 3-0 with Ferran Torres scoring twice, keeping pressure on Real Madrid in La Liga title race

Barcelona defeated Getafe 3-0 on Sunday as Ferran Torres struck twice to help the Catalans remain hot on the heels of La Liga leaders Real Madrid.

Barcelona beat Getafe comfortably at the Johan Cruyff stadium, where they are playing while awaiting licences to reopen their renovated Camp Nou.

Torres opened the scoring with a powerful finish, assisted by Dani Olmo, who also got on the scoresheet later.

Torres’s second goal was even more impressive, a precise strike from outside the box after a neat pass from Raphinha.

He nearly completed a first-half hat-trick, hitting the bar with a fierce shot.

Despite the comfortable scoreline, the game became tense as Getafe resorted to tough, late tackles on several Barcelona players, especially defender Jules Kounde.

Coach Hansi Flick rotated his squad by bringing Marcus Rashford on at half-time to replace Raphinha, possibly to avoid further disciplinary risks.

Rashford created Barcelona’s third goal with a clever cut-back for Olmo to finish, adding to the team’s dominant display. “We focused on our match, not on theirs,” Torres told DAZN after the game.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid’s difficult start continued with a 1-1 draw at Mallorca.

Despite taking the lead through Conor Gallagher, Atletico were reduced to ten men after Alexander Sorloth’s red card and eventually conceded a late equaliser by Vedat Muriqi.

The result leaves Atletico languishing in 12th place, nine points behind Real Madrid and seven behind Barcelona.
