Osun Visa scam arrest as police detain travel agent over alleged N8.4m Luxembourg visa fraud and apprehend suspected cultists

The Osun State Police Command has arrested a suspected travel agent over an alleged Osun Visa Scam involving N8.4 million collected from multiple victims under the pretext of securing Luxembourg visas and travel arrangements.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the case began in January 2025 when two victims were introduced to the suspect through a friend.

According to DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the victims paid N3.6 million to the suspect for visa processing and flight tickets to Luxembourg. Instead of delivering the service, the suspect allegedly disappeared with the money.

Police investigations later revealed that the suspect had defrauded other victims of an additional N4.8 million, bringing the total amount involved to N8.4 million.

Detectives launched an intelligence-led operation after receiving the complaint, leading to the suspect’s arrest. The police spokesperson said the suspect confessed during interrogation.

In a related development, officers also arrested four suspected cult members along Polytechnic Road in Iree. Firearms and an axe were recovered during the operation.

The command said all suspects would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations, reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on fraud, cultism and other criminal activities.

The police urged members of the public to verify the credentials of travel agents and report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies.
