Zone 2 Police arrest adulterated engine oil suspect, recovering 280 gallons across several states after intelligence-led raids

The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, has arrested a 26-year-old suspect allegedly responsible for the production and nationwide distribution of adulterated engine oil.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Gbenga Afolayan, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday.

DSP Gbenga Afolayan said the case followed a written petition submitted to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the command, Mr Adegoke Fayoade, alleging the illegal adulteration of a branded engine oil product.

DSP Gbenga Afolayan said the petition was referred to the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit for discreet investigation.

Detectives subsequently apprehended the suspect, who allegedly confessed to masterminding the production and importation of adulterated engine oil from China before distributing the products across multiple states.

During intelligence-led raids, officers recovered 280 gallons of the suspected adulterated engine oil from locations in Imo, Enugu, Kano, Lagos and Ogun states.

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria confirmed that the seized products failed to meet Nigerian Industrial Standards, lending weight to the allegations.

Mr Adegoke Fayoade reaffirmed the command’s resolve to protect consumers, safeguard legitimate businesses and ensure that perpetrators of economic crimes are brought to justice.
