Liverpool have hijacked Newcastle United’s move for Víctor Muñoz, activating his €40m release clause and agreeing personal terms, according to Fabrizio Romano

In Liverpool, England, on Thursday 18 June 2026, Liverpool have successfully hijacked Newcastle United’s pursuit of Spanish midfielder Víctor Muñoz and are on the verge of signing him.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that the Reds have verbally agreed personal terms with the player and activated his €40 million release clause.

The deal is now “all set to be signed” and is expected to be completed in the coming days.

Newcastle had been in advanced negotiations for several days, but Liverpool’s late intervention turned the deal in their favour.

The move is being described as another big surprise in this summer’s transfer window.
