RMD urges Nigerians to propose solutions, not just criticise, calling for accountability and civic responsibility at a Lagos conference

Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has urged Nigerians to move beyond criticism and contribute practical solutions to the country’s challenges at the 2026 Pivot Nigeria Conference in Lagos on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

RMD acknowledged the difficulties facing Nigeria but argued that identifying problems should be accompanied by a willingness to help address them.

“There are problems, but we need to fix them. Don’t stand and just criticise and propose no solution,” RMD said.

The veteran actor also called for stronger accountability from political leaders, saying elected officials should recognise their responsibility to the citizens they represent.

“We don’t hold leadership accountable enough,” he said.

RMD’s remarks placed equal emphasis on the responsibilities of citizens, urging Nigerians to recognise the effect of their individual actions on the country’s reputation.

“Just remember who you are. You are an ambassador, not just for yourself, your parents or your school, but ultimately for your country,” he added.

The actor said Nigerians carry that responsibility beyond the country’s borders, particularly when interacting with people from other nations.

RMD described Nigeria as a “work in progress” and called for patience, personal responsibility and sustained efforts from citizens and leaders.

His message at the Lagos conference centred on a simple but significant point: criticism can identify what is wrong, but meaningful progress also requires people to participate in finding ways to make things better.
