Bauchi Sharia judges swearing-in sees Chief Judge Rabi Umar urge integrity, fairness and professionalism in delivering justice at grassroots level

The Bauchi State Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Umar, on Wednesday swore in newly appointed Sharia Court judges at High Court No. 1 premises in Bauchi, urging them to uphold integrity, impartiality and a strong sense of responsibility in the discharge of their duties.

The inauguration marked the formal commencement of duties for the judges, who are expected to preside over civil matters within their respective jurisdictions, reinforcing access to justice at the grassroots level.

The Bauchi Sharia judges swearing-in ceremony brought together judicial officials and stakeholders who witnessed the administration of oath.

In her address, Justice Umar described the judiciary as the last hope of the common man and emphasised the need for the judges to carry out their responsibilities without fear or favour.

She stressed that public confidence in the justice system depends largely on the conduct of judicial officers.

The Chief Judge cautioned the newly appointed judges against issuing orders outside their jurisdiction, particularly those that could restrain security agencies from performing their lawful duties.

She warned that any form of misconduct would not be tolerated under her leadership.

Justice Umar further underscored the importance of diligence, ethical conduct and continuous learning in judicial service.

She noted that the appointments followed a rigorous selection process and called on the judges to justify the confidence placed in them through fair and professional adjudication.

According to her, the judges will handle a range of civil disputes, including matters relating to land, family and commercial issues.

She explained that their roles are critical in strengthening justice delivery across communities and ensuring that legal processes remain accessible and efficient.

The Chief Judge also commended the Judicial Service Commission and the appointment committee for conducting a transparent and diligent selection exercise, describing it as essential to maintaining standards within the judiciary.

Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in judges, Muhammad Salihu expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve and pledged that the appointees would discharge their responsibilities with honesty, dedication and respect for the rule of law.
