Everton have joined the race to sign Christantus Uche, Getafe’s breakout Nigerian midfielder, amid growing interest from top Premier League and La Liga clubs

Christantus Uche has become one of the most sought-after young midfielders in Europe, and Everton are the latest club to join the race for the highly-rated Nigerian talent.

After a stellar debut campaign in La Liga with Getafe, Uche is now firmly on the radar of multiple top-flight sides across England and Spain.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has enjoyed a breakout season under José Bordalás, featuring in all 38 league matches and contributing four goals and seven assists — a remarkable tally for a player whose game revolves around tactical discipline, interceptions, and intelligent transitions.

Uche’s performances have not gone unnoticed. Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Newcastle United, Brentford, and Leeds United have all expressed interest, while Atlético Madrid are reportedly monitoring him from within La Liga.

Now, Everton have entered the fray, identifying him as a priority signing for their midfield overhaul ahead of the 2025–26 season.

According to Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, the Toffees are preparing a formal approach. With a €25 million release clause attached to Uche’s current contract at Getafe, the Spanish club may be open to negotiations.

His former club, Ceuta, are poised to receive 20% of any future sale — providing Getafe with a financial incentive to consider serious offers.

Within the club hierarchy, Getafe president Ángel Torres and incoming sporting director Toni Muñoz are scheduled to hold talks to determine Uche’s future.

The outcome could shape the club’s summer plans as they look to refresh their squad following a 13th-place finish in La Liga.

Uche’s profile has risen even further on the international stage. He made his senior debut for Nigeria during the Unity Cup final against Jamaica, confidently converting the winning penalty in a tense shootout.

He followed up with a mature full debut in a 1–1 draw against Russia, reinforcing his status as a rising star for the Super Eagles.

For Everton, who are rebuilding under a new sporting structure, Uche is seen as a long-term anchor — a dynamic midfielder with Premier League-ready attributes.
