Ladipo market leaders urge Lagos government to build a pedestrian bridge at Toyota bus stop to prevent accidents and safeguard traders and customers

The leadership of the Ladipo Automobile Market Association has appealed to the Lagos State government to construct a pedestrian bridge at the Toyota bus stop on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.

The request aims to prevent accidents involving traders and customers navigating the busy highway.

Prince Africanus Ogudoro, President-General of the market association, made the appeal during the quarterly sanitation exercise over the weekend.

He highlighted that several lives had been lost or seriously injured while crossing the expressway, stressing that previous government requests had gone unattended.

Ogudoro praised traders for their compliance during the sanitation drive, which he described as the first of the year. “The sanitation is an important exercise. Here it is up to the people of Ladipo to maintain a cleaner and better environment,” he said.

He reported that 78 per cent of traders participated, ensuring the market was environmentally friendly and safe for both customers and traders.

Ogudoro also commended the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) for efficiently evacuating refuse from the market.

Supporting the initiative, Mr Nonso Chufo, Chairman of the market’s Environment Committee, described the cleaning as a success.

“Every shop is shut in over 20 units of the market, and everywhere is clean. We are law-abiding citizens and will continue to maintain a cleaner Ladipo market,” he said.

The quarterly sanitation programme will continue into the second quarter, with the market executives committed to sustaining the initiative while advocating for infrastructure that ensures the safety of all market users.
