Flamingos U17 World Cup Qualifier begins as Nigeria’s team departs for Abidjan to face Guinea in the first leg of the 2026 qualifying fixture

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, will depart the country on Wednesday, 18 May 2026, for Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, ahead of their first-leg clash against Guinea in the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

The fixture, which forms part of the Flamingos U17 World Cup Qualifier campaign, is scheduled to take place in Abidjan on Saturday, 18 May 2026.

The return leg will be held at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Saturday, 30 May 2026, where Nigeria will aim to secure progression to the next round of qualification.

Head coach Akeem Busari’s side has been in final preparations in Ikenne since last week, stepping up training sessions as they fine-tune tactics and team coordination ahead of the crucial encounter.

As part of their build-up, the Flamingos recorded a convincing 5–0 victory over Lakeside Queens in a friendly match last Thursday, a result that boosted confidence within the squad.

A total of 36 players are currently in camp, with the final squad expected to be trimmed before departure as the coaching staff finalises the team selection for the away fixture.
