The Bernardo Silva transfer discussion comes as Alonso is set to officially take charge at Stamford Bridge in July on a four-year contract following Chelsea’s disappointing tenth-place Premier League finish.

Cole, who remains a vocal advocate for Chelsea’s long-term direction, believes the club must balance its youthful recruitment strategy with experienced leaders capable of stabilising the dressing room.

Speaking to Metro, Cole named Silva among several senior players he believes could provide immediate impact and leadership at Stamford Bridge.

“Bernardo Silva is still on the market and is the one I prefer,” Cole said, highlighting the Portuguese midfielder as an ideal candidate to bring balance and experience to the squad.

He also referenced the influence of veteran players in other Premier League teams, suggesting that Chelsea could benefit from similar leadership figures within their evolving squad structure.

Cole further pointed to Alonso’s appointment as a pivotal moment for the club, insisting that the new manager must be given stronger control to succeed in rebuilding the team.

“I believe it’s an excellent appointment… but he has to be in control,” he added, calling for a managerial structure similar to successful Premier League sides.

The Chelsea Bernardo Silva transfer 2026 idea aligns with growing calls for the club to add experienced professionals following a season defined by inconsistency and underperformance.

Chelsea are expected to undergo significant changes this summer, with several players’ futures under review as Alonso begins reshaping the squad.

Among those facing uncertainty are key squad members whose long-term roles remain unclear as the club prioritises both performance and leadership ahead of the new campaign.
