Top free agents include Pogba, Sancho, Benzema, Ramos, Sterling and Mahrez, with 14 high-profile players still available after deadline day

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has highlighted 14 high-profile players who remain available on the free-agent market following the closure of the summer transfer window, with former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and England winger Jadon Sancho among the biggest names.

The list features players with extensive experience across the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and other major competitions, giving clubs an opportunity to add established talent without negotiating a conventional transfer fee.

Pogba heads the list of available players. The France international remains one of the most recognisable midfielders of his generation despite a difficult spell in recent seasons.

Second on the list is Sancho, the former Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United winger, who has considerable experience in both English and European football.

The third name is Dani Carvajal. The Spain international and long-serving Real Madrid defender has won major domestic and European honours during his career.

Former Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain captain Sergio Ramos follows at number four. The experienced centre-back remains one of the most decorated defenders of his generation.

Karim Benzema is fifth on the list. The former Real Madrid and France striker won the Ballon d’Or in 2022 and has enjoyed an illustrious career at club and international level.

Sixth is David Alaba, the Austria international who has played for Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. His ability to operate across the defence and midfield has been a notable feature of his career.

Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho is seventh. The former Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich midfielder remains another familiar name on the free-agent market.

Yves Bissouma occupies the eighth position. The Côte d’Ivoire international has significant Premier League experience and offers clubs an experienced option in midfield.

Former England international Raheem Sterling is ninth. The winger has represented Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea and has accumulated extensive Premier League experience.

Riyad Mahrez is tenth on the list. The Algeria international established himself as one of the Premier League’s most accomplished wingers during his time with Leicester City and Manchester City.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is the eleventh player highlighted by Romano. The Ukraine international has experience in the Premier League and European competition and can operate in several positions.

Wilfried Zaha is next at number 12. The Côte d’Ivoire international is particularly well known for his long association with Crystal Palace and his ability to operate across the attack.

Croatia midfielder Marcelo Brozović is the 13th name. The former Inter Milan player was a key part of the Italian club’s midfield before moving to Saudi Arabia.

The final player on the list is Portugal international Renato Sanches. The midfielder has previously played for clubs including Benfica, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Lille.
