Kano Governor Abba Yusuf orders revocation of illegal Northwest University land allocations and directs payment of outstanding staff allowances by December 2025

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has ordered the revocation of all illegal allocations and encroachments on the land of Northwest University, Kano, while formally receiving the institution’s first female Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Amina Bayero.

The directive came during the 35th State Executive Council meeting, when the Pro-Chancellor of the university and members of the Governing Council and management visited to present Bayero as the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor.

Governor Yusuf also instructed that all outstanding earned academic allowances owed to university staff be paid before the end of December 2025.

A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, said Yusuf commended the Governing Council for appointing a substantive Vice-Chancellor through a rigorous and transparent process.

“The appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor after a transparent process is critical to the stability and growth of the university, and this administration will continue to support the institution to achieve academic excellence,” Yusuf said.

Governor Yusuf urged Bayero, a pioneer academic staff member and the university’s first female Vice-Chancellor, to execute her responsibilities diligently and collaborate with all stakeholders to advance the institution during her five-year tenure.

He further directed the state Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning to assess the university’s land holdings and revoke any illegal allocations or encroachments allegedly made under the previous administration.

“Northwest University must be protected from all forms of land encroachment. Any illegal allocation on its land will be revoked without hesitation,” Yusuf said.

Pro-Chancellor Prof. Hafiz Abubakar noted that the process to appoint the new Vice-Chancellor lasted approximately 10 months and was unanimously endorsed by the Governing Council, receiving wide approval.

In her remarks, Bayero expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged her commitment to repositioning the university.
