Oba Femi WWE clash with Bron Breakker in Atlanta on September 6 promises a major test for two rising stars fighting to define WWE’s future

Nigerian professional wrestler Isaac Odugbesan, known as Oba Femi, and American WWE star Bronson Rechsteiner, known as Bron Breakker, will meet in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 6, 2026, in a high-profile WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event contest that has been framed as a test of who can emerge as one of the company’s defining stars.

The match was confirmed following a tense confrontation on Monday Night Raw in Buffalo on August 17, when Breakker sought out Femi and the two made their ambitions clear.

Rather than allowing the confrontation to become an unscheduled fight, WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman stepped in and pushed for the contest to take place on a bigger stage.

Raw General Manager Adam Pearce was subsequently involved in arranging the September 6 meeting.

The storyline has been building for several weeks, with Breakker increasingly concerned about Femi’s growing reputation inside WWE.

During the August 10 edition of Raw, Breakker directly questioned Heyman about whether Femi was becoming the future of WWE. Heyman responded that he respected Femi for delivering on his promise against Brock Lesnar.

When Breakker pressed him again, Heyman told him: “I think YOU think Oba Femi is the future of the WWE.”

That exchange helped establish the personal edge behind the forthcoming match. Breakker has been presented as one of WWE’s leading young talents, while Femi’s rapid rise has given him a powerful claim to the same status.

Femi’s momentum increased dramatically at SummerSlam on August 1, when the Nigerian defeated Brock Lesnar in a brutal Hell in a Cell match at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

The victory was particularly significant because it came after a lengthy rivalry. Femi had previously defeated Lesnar at WrestleMania 42 before Lesnar returned, attacked him and later defeated him at Clash in Italy. Their SummerSlam encounter was intended to settle the score.

Femi survived multiple German suplexes, several F-5 attempts and a Tombstone delivered onto exposed wooden boards beneath the ring before finishing Lesnar with his signature Fall From Grace.

The aftermath provided one of the most memorable moments of the night. Lesnar embraced Femi and publicly endorsed his younger opponent, declaring that Femi was “the future of WWE.”

The endorsement added weight to the growing narrative around Femi, but Breakker has his own credentials.

The 28-year-old is a former two-time Intercontinental Champion and a two-time World Tag Team Champion.

He is also the son of WWE Hall of Famer Rick Steiner and has established himself as a formidable performer since moving from NXT to WWE’s main roster in 2024.

Femi, meanwhile, has taken a different route to prominence. The Lagos-born wrestler has risen rapidly since entering WWE, winning the 2026 King of the Ring tournament before his decisive victory over Lesnar at SummerSlam. WWE’s own coverage has increasingly positioned him as a major force in the company.

The rivalry therefore carries more significance than a straightforward singles match.

Both wrestlers have been portrayed as potential long-term cornerstones, making the Atlanta contest a useful measuring stick for their respective trajectories.

There is also an interesting element of timing. Breakker remains part of The Vision and holds a World Tag Team Championship, but his recent frustration suggests that his position within the group has not entirely satisfied his ambitions.

Femi, by contrast, enters the contest following perhaps the most powerful victory of his young career.

That contrast gives the September 6 encounter a compelling human dimension.

Breakker is trying to reclaim the perception that he is WWE’s next major attraction, while Femi is attempting to turn a spectacular breakthrough into sustained main-event credibility.

The outcome will not, by itself, determine the future of either wrestler. WWE’s long-term plans will ultimately depend on how both men develop in the ring, on the microphone and in their ability to connect with audiences.

For now, however, the stakes are clear. Two of WWE’s most promising young heavyweights will meet in Atlanta with a significant opportunity to strengthen their claims to the company’s future.

The clash with Bron Breakker is consequently shaping up as one of the more intriguing encounters on the September card, particularly after the Nigerian’s remarkable rise through 2026.
