Abuja Tinted Glass Clampdown continues as FCTA seizes 700 vehicles over fake permits, citing security risks despite October enforcement deadline

The Abuja Tinted Glass Clampdown has continued despite the Inspector-General of Police extending the enforcement deadline to October 2025.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) insists the action is justified due to rising security concerns.

During a Citywide Sanitation Operation on Monday, the FCTA Director of Security Services, Adamu Gwary—represented by Dr. Peter Olumuji—said many tinted glass permits in circulation were fake and linked to criminal activities, particularly “one-chance” robberies.

“Anybody who has the capacity to fake that permit also has the capacity to commit crime,” Olumuji stressed, noting that over 700 vehicles have already been impounded in Abuja since August 19, 2025.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had earlier given motorists a grace period until October 2025 to regularise their papers.

However, the FCTA argued that waiting posed significant security risks, as fake permits allowed criminally inclined motorists to roam freely.

The clampdown forms part of a broader Citywide Sanitation Operation that also targeted illegal structures. In Bunkoro District near Gwarimpa, more than 1,000 shanties were demolished along Ring Road 3.

Director of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, explained that while indigenous settlements were spared pending resettlement discussions, makeshift structures serving as hideouts for criminals had to go.

He added that the FCTA was coordinating with the Department of Resettlement and Compensation to prevent cleared areas from being reoccupied, particularly as work progresses on the N16 road project.

Both Gwary and Galadima assured residents that combined enforcement and clearance exercises would continue across Abuja. The ultimate goal, they said, is to secure lives and property, enhance urban aesthetics, and curb crime.
