Agu, who hails from Umuakaliukwu Kindred, Uboegbelu, Azaraubo, Emekuku, was allegedly attacked by six men because she cooperated with police officers during an investigation, the Imo Police Command confirmed on Tuesday.

The command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye, said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Aboki Danjuma, ordered the probe after a viral video showed the assault.

The X-Squad Unit is now working to identify and apprehend all the suspects involved.

“The assault was allegedly carried out because the woman cooperated with police officers who had earlier visited the community for investigative purposes,” Okoye said.

The CP condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric, inhuman, and totally unacceptable.

He further warned that any form of jungle justice or intimidation of residents assisting the police would not be tolerated.
