Speaking from Chicago, the ex-international said the young Nigerians made the country proud by defeating Ghana and hosts Benin Republic twice each on their way to lifting the regional title.

Avre, who represented Nigeria at the WAFCON, Olympic Games and FIFA Women’s World Cup, described the performance as a bright reminder of the nation’s depth in women’s football.

She revealed that the Falconets’ 3–0 win over Ghana on Wednesday made her birthday “extra special”, adding that the girls had kept the winning flame of the Super Falcons alive with style and conviction.

The Falconets WAFU championship triumph also prompted Avre to urge the Nigeria Football Federation and National Sports Commission to provide stronger support for the team.

She appealed for better welfare, longer camping periods and consistent motivation as they prepare for upcoming assignments, including their next match against Senegal.

Avre expressed concern over reports that the U-17 girls were poorly rewarded, warning that such neglect must not be repeated.

She said many players from her era were owed allowances despite bringing honour to Nigeria, insisting that the culture of overlooking young athletes has to end.
