The 28-year-old Brentford midfielder made the comments during a brief fan interview posted on TikTok with Manchester United supporter Hussain Vorajee.

When asked which club he currently represents, Onyeka replied, “Brentford,” before confirming that he would like to play for Old Trafford, saying: “Yes of course, I want to play for Manchester United.”

The exchange quickly circulated online, attracting criticism from supporters who deemed the remarks unprofessional given Onyeka’s active contract with Brentford.

Brentford fan Tom P (@TomPurchase6) tweeted, “Can we release Onyeka please?” while @simplykofi22 called the comments “very unprofessional.” Other users suggested the midfielder could have given a more diplomatic response to avoid controversy.

Despite the backlash, Onyeka remains a key player for club and country.

He has started all three of Nigeria’s games so far in AFCON, averaging 77 minutes per match, contributing with defensive stability, accurate passing, and midfield duels.
