APC South-West Congress preparations intensify as party readies delegates for key Lagos meeting ahead of national convention

The All Progressives Congress has intensified preparations for its APC South-West Congress, scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Onikan Stadium.

In a joint statement, the South-West Zonal Chairman, Isaacs Kekemeke, alongside Zonal Secretary Vincent Bewaji and Zonal Organising Secretary Lateef Ibirogba, urged accredited delegates to arrive early and adhere strictly to the guidelines for the exercise.

The leadership stated that the congress, which is set to commence at 9:00 a.m., forms part of a broader nationwide internal restructuring approved by the party’s national hierarchy.

The move is aimed at strengthening party structures ahead of the national convention and future elections.

According to the statement, the gathering will serve as a strategic platform to assess the party’s performance in the South-West, deepen unity among stakeholders and reposition the APC for stronger electoral outcomes.

The officials outlined the categories of statutory delegates expected at the congress, in line with Article 12.7 of the party’s constitution.

These include the zonal chairman and former office holders, members of the zonal executive committee, as well as serving and former governors from the region.

Also expected are current and former members of the National Assembly, principal officers of state Houses of Assembly, state party chairmen, members of the National Executive Committee and National Caucus, alongside other statutory delegates to the national convention.

The party assured that robust security and logistical arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth and orderly process. Coordination with relevant authorities is ongoing to manage the anticipated turnout of delegates and stakeholders.

The statement emphasised that the wide representation of participants reflects the significance of the congress as a key convergence point for influential political actors, grassroots mobilisers and institutional stakeholders across the region.

The South-West, comprising Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states, remains a critical stronghold for the All Progressives Congress, making the upcoming congress a pivotal and strategic event.
