Dangote MSMEs expansion plan targets industrial growth, energy solutions and local production to support small businesses in Nigeria
Dangote Group has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s industrial base and supporting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises through an ambitious long-term expansion strategy unveiled at the 37th International Trade Fair in Enugu.
Speaking at the event organised by the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, the South East Regional Director of Dangote Cement, Olatunbosun Jinadu, said MSMEs remain central to economic growth but continue to face significant structural challenges.
Jinadu identified high energy costs, expensive raw materials and inadequate infrastructure as major constraints limiting the competitiveness of small businesses, noting that the Group’s Vision 2030 strategy is designed to address these gaps.
The Dangote MSMEs expansion plan, he explained, focuses on scaling industrial capacity and improving access to critical inputs, particularly in energy and feedstock supply, to enhance productivity across sectors.
“Nigeria’s economic transformation must be anchored on local production and industrial self-reliance,” Jinadu said, adding that the company’s investments are driven by a firm belief in domestic capacity development.
Under the strategy, the Group plans to significantly expand operations across key sectors, including increasing the capacity of its refinery from 650,000 to 1.4 million barrels per day, boosting fertiliser production to 12 million metric tonnes annually, and scaling output at its polypropylene plant.
He noted that increased availability of polypropylene, widely used in packaging, textiles and manufacturing, would ease production constraints for MSMEs and reduce reliance on imports.
Describing the trade fair’s theme, “Empowering MSMEs for Global Competitiveness,” as timely, Jinadu said the platform serves as both a marketplace and a powerful call to strengthen enterprises that form the backbone of the economy.
He also encouraged stakeholders to explore partnership opportunities with Dangote’s various business units to drive innovation and growth.
In his remarks, the President of ECCIMA, Nnanyelugo Onyemelukwe, commended the Group’s sustained contribution to Nigeria’s economic development, noting its presence across multiple sectors and its role in job creation.
He said the company’s expansion across Africa reflects a strong vision and enduring commitment to industrialisation, describing it as a source of pride for Nigeria and the continent.
The Dangote MSMEs expansion plan is expected to play a key role in advancing local production, lowering costs for small businesses and positioning Nigeria for greater competitiveness in global markets.
