Tyler Perry never getting married, he tells The Jennifer Hudson Show, blaming a “divorce pandemic” that he says left friends broke

Tyler Perry, the American filmmaker, actor and producer, told host Jennifer Hudson on The Jennifer Hudson Show that he has no plan to marry. The 57-year-old was promoting Why Did I Get Married Again?, which arrived on Netflix on 9 September 2026, when the talk turned to his own life.

“It’s not the marriage that bothers me. It’s the divorce. Everybody that I know that did well and went broke, it was because of a divorce, so I’m good just being free,” he said. In another cut of the same exchange he called it a “divorce pandemic” and said he was “never marrying.”

Jennifer Hudson pressed the point because Tyler Perry has built a franchise on weddings gone wrong since Why Did I Get Married? in 2007. The new film is the third turn of that wheel.

The studio laugh is that the man selling marriage drama will not sign a licence. He framed the choice as protection of what he has built, not a dislike of partnership.

Tyler Perry has a son, Aman, with former partner Gelila Bekele. He has spoken of slowing down, spending more time with the boy and, in the same publicity run, of pulling back from a heavy Hollywood load, including a possible move toward Puerto Rico in 2027. Those plans sit beside the vow. None of them is a legal filing.

The Tyler Perry never getting married line will travel because it is blunt and because it comes from a very rich man who writes divorce for a living. Divorce settlements do ruin some fortunes.

They do not describe every marriage. Viewers can take the quote as caution, as branding for the film, or as both. He has said he is good being free. The movies will keep arguing the other side.
