Northern Christian Elders Forum peace appeal calls for Christian-Muslim unity to promote peace, stability, and national development in Nigeria

The Northern Christian Elders Forum has urged Muslims and Christians across Nigeria to strengthen cooperation for peace and national development, making a renewed call during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Kaduna State, Nigeria, on Sunday, 22 March 2026.

The Northern Christian Elders Forum peace appeal was delivered by the group’s chairman, Mr Ejoga Inalegwu, who stressed that unity between both faith communities is essential to addressing insecurity and fostering sustainable development in the northern region.

Mr Inalegwu described peace as a shared responsibility, urging religious leaders to consistently preach tolerance, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among their followers in order to reduce long standing tensions that have occasionally disrupted harmony in parts of the region.

He further noted that stronger collaboration between Christians and Muslims remains critical to achieving lasting stability, particularly in Northern Nigeria where communal misunderstandings have, at times, escalated into wider conflict.

The forum also called on federal and state governments to actively support interfaith dialogue initiatives, insisting that structured engagement between religious groups is key to building trust and ensuring long term peace.

The Northern Christian Elders Forum peace appeal concluded with a renewed commitment to continue advocating unity, while encouraging stakeholders to prioritise dialogue over division in the pursuit of national cohesion.
