NPFL final matchday rules could see clubs lose points and goals for violating fixture directives this season

The Nigeria Premier Football League has warned clubs against violating fixture directives for the final two rounds of the 2025/26 season, stressing that offenders risk severe sanctions, including points and goals deductions.

With the title race, continental qualification places and relegation battle set for a dramatic finish, the league body said all remaining fixtures must be played simultaneously to preserve sporting fairness and competition integrity.

In a directive issued by the NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, clubs were reminded that matchday 37 and 38 fixtures had already been fixed for the same dates and kick-off times.

“It has also become imperative to remind all clubs that the remaining games of Matchday 37 and 38 have been scheduled to be played simultaneously on the same date and kick-off time of 4pm,” Owumi stated.

“This decision is to ensure sporting fairness and to protect the integrity of our matches and results.”

Under the NPFL final matchday rules, clubs were instructed not to seek adjustments to fixtures or kick-off times, even where their regular home venues may be unavailable.

The league further directed any affected club to communicate an alternative NPFL-accredited stadium before the stipulated deadline.

According to the memo, clubs that fail to provide an approved venue would have one selected by the league management.

The NPFL also warned that any breach of the directive could attract the forfeiture of three points and three goals in line with league regulations.

Sunday’s matchday 37 fixtures will all kick off simultaneously at 4pm across various centres.

Abia Warriors will host Kun Khalifa, while El Kanemi Warriors face Niger Tornadoes.

Elsewhere, Kano Pillars take on Warri Wolves as Katsina United welcome Ikorodu City.

Kwara United will battle Enyimba, while Nasarawa United host Plateau United.

In other fixtures, Enugu Rangers face Bendel Insurance, defending champions Remo Stars meet Bayelsa United, while Shooting Stars take on Barau.
