KWASU appeals to Governor AbdulRazaq to construct a flyover along Shao/Malete Road to reduce accidents and enhance road safety

The Kwara State University (KWASU) has appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to construct an overhead bridge along Shao/Malete Road to reduce accidents on the busy route to the institution.

The call was made by the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jimoh Shaykh-Lukman, during KWASU’s pre-convocation press conference on Tuesday in Malete.

While commending the governor for promptly repairing the Malete road, Shaykh-Lukman said Federal Government interventions had not addressed the hazards posed by reckless drivers.

“Some commercial and even articulated vehicles drive against traffic in a bid to cut corners. This constitutes a major hazard for all users of that road,” he said. “We urge Governor AbdulRazaq to facilitate a flyover for safe crossing of the express road.”

The vice chancellor also requested extensions to the existing intra-campus road network to improve access to university facilities.

“Road infrastructure is beyond the ability of the university, and this is why we call on our proprietor, Gov. AbdulRazaq, to intervene in this area,” Shaykh-Lukman added.

Speaking on the forthcoming 13th Convocation Ceremony, Shaykh-Lukman said a total of 8,119 degrees will be awarded on December 13, including 7,618 first degrees and 501 postgraduate degrees.

Among graduates, 82 earned First Class honours, 1,986 Second Class Upper, 4,195 Second Class Lower, and 1,355 Third Class. At the postgraduate level, 75 PhDs and 426 Master’s degrees will be conferred.

The VC highlighted the progress made over the past year, with the Osi and Ilesha-Baruba campuses now operational.

“Both staff and students have been integrated into these communities through lectures and research activities, spreading the institution’s impact across the state,” he said.

KWASU now offers 81 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across three campuses and has maintained a high accreditation success rate, reflecting its commitment to academic excellence.
