Jan Urban’s team were twice pegged back in front of a home crowd of around 58,000 spectators, as Nigeria fought back to secure a share of the spoils in a tightly contested encounter.

Potulski, who scored Poland’s opening goal late in the first half, said the hosts created more chances throughout the match but were ultimately punished for their lack of clinical finishing.

He described the result as frustrating, arguing that key moments did not go in Poland’s favour, including a contentious first goal and a penalty incident he felt was avoidable.

“I think that throughout the entire match, we had more chances. They scored against us when everything was on the line. The first goal – it’s unclear whether it was offside. The second goal was a penalty kick, which we accidentally took. We created more chances,” he said.

The defender, who plays for Mainz, added that Poland’s inability to convert their dominance into goals proved costly as Nigeria capitalised on crucial opportunities.
